RK Chain Rivet Tool UTC 4060 Reviews

This tool works well to both press the end plate on the master link and if you have a rivet type master link this tool works very well. The problem I've experienced installing both types of master links is not the tool but rather it seems to be the extremely close tolerance of the end plate. I was tempted several times to enlarge the holes on the end plate for an easier fit but by using this tool it made a relatively quick installation. It's worth the price for me and save the hassle of wrestling the master link with a Crescent wrench, etc. I try to do as much of the work on my bike as I can. By This review is from: RK Chain Rivet Tool UTC 4060 I bought this kit many years ago for use on my Hayabusa. I've replace the chain four times (105,000 miles) and had success with this kit three times :)The first time I used the kit was the first time I'd used a rivet chain having owned a Harley before that (belt drive) and never having a bike long enough (in miles) to require a chain change prior to the Harleys. Unfortunately I broke one of the pins on an anvil (one of the two square bits in the upper right of the pic). Fortunately it wasn't needed to continue changing the chains and changing it out the first three times was easily taken care of with this kit. This most recent time, a few weeks ago, the main pin broke (the longer bit on the lower part of the pic). The pin was very slightly bent prior to that and this time must have exceeded the tolerances of the pin and it snapped in half. I snagged a chain breaker from a local bike dealer but it was too short and I had to use a finishing nail to finish breaking... (I don't think riveted chains had been invented!!)This tool worked like a charm - the link was riveted in less than 5 minutes! Plus it has all the bits to "break" chains. |
